The Minuteman movement started picking up steam little by little over the last 20 years. This coincides with the government's last failed attempt at granting amnesty to 3 million illegal aliens in 1986 to solve the illegal alien problem "permanently". Certainly one of the biggest heroes of the movement is Tom Tancredo who for more than 10 years has been warning us of the coming peril and who against all odds built the House Immigration Caucus to its present 93 members. Tom Tancredo has served for many years as Congressman in Colorado and founded the Team American PAC. Team America's webpage is www.teamamericapac.org In regards to the Minutemen congregating in Arizona in April of 2005, this credit goes to Chris Simcox and Jim Gilchrist who collaboratively made the call for volunteers to pack their binoculars, large brim hats and cell phones and come to the desert to give the Border Patrol a hand. Their idea was to send a message to the President that civilian volunteers were ready to do the jobs that the elected politicians won't do. Since April of 2005, Jim Gilchrist ran for Congress in Orange County, California and penned an authoritative account of the birth of this movement in his book, "The Minutemen: The Battle to Secure America's Borders". Jim is the founder of the Minuteman Project (MMP). The MMP webpage is www.minutemanproject.com. The other co-founder of the Minutemen, Chris Simcox, has built an organization of volunteers across the nation spanning many northern and southern border states; and has broken ground on a border fence project in Arizona with contributions in funds and time from volunteers around the nation.
